Caden Reynolds- Assignment 5

Prompt: Does TV provide a good form of entertainment? Is it just a convenient delivery system for advertisers to send their messages to the masses? Is it an inane use of time? Can it be all three?

It can certainly be all three. Television is the ultimate downtime for our society, we use it when we feel like relaxing. Most all Americans have a favorite show or channel. And the best thing is, the television is never not playing shows or movies. Television is what keeps us up to date on the latest news rather than having to wait until the next day to get the paper. It may provide you with a good laugh on your favorite comedy show. Whatever you like, television has something for you. But as we all watch television most days of our lives, it is obvious that businesses see that as a gold mine, luring people in with attractive commercials that run on all channels. Even if the business does not come right out and tell us to buy or use their product, they may pay channels or different TV businesses to use their product. Although television has been around for nearly 90 years, our society acts like it has been around for centuries. Someone could have their eyes glued to the television for hours and not think anything about it. Some people may say it is a complete waste of one's time, as it feeds their brain with nonsense, usually not giving people usable knowledge. So while television may be the easiest downtime for a lazy day, it is also a place for businesses to advertise their product more than anywhere else, as well as at times, being a complete waste of one's time.
