Assignment 7- Quinn Andrews

Boston once had a different name: Shawmut. Yet on September 16th, 1630 its name became what we know today. This is important simply because Boston plays such an integral part in our history. Without Boston, we would not have the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere, etc. Without this city it would be impossible to have the nation we have today. It has been a hub of commerce, politics, and innovation. Now it holds some of the most prestigious universities in the country. The changing of the name affected the city on its own, and later it paints the pages of our history books. This event is interesting because we see cities as permanent, immovable; yet, a city is a group of buildings where people live under one geographical name. These people could easily decide they no longer wish to live there and move, and suddenly the city is no more. Yet this city survived wars and still exists.
