Assignment 9: Claire Telfer

There are too many times the world is at war for it to be justified. It's unlikely that we'll ever experience world peace because countries start wars over any disagreement or hunger for power. In the case of World War I, the reason the war started was because of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. This event paved the way for the first World War, which claimed the lives of 17 million people, including 7 million civilians. War involves everyone, it's not just the people fighting and killing others or the government. Although I have strong beliefs against war, it is warranted as a last resort. When another country relentlessly puts the lives of civilians in danger, then the government has a duty to protect its citizens by going to war. In a perfect world, negotiating treaties could be more manageable, but in our world with dictators and communists, it's easier said than done.
