Caden Reynolds- Assignment 4

Image result for veteran world war 2 kiss
This is an image of a World War II veteran returning to the United States after the war. It depicts the resounding comfort from Americans as their soldiers return from six years at war. These soldiers had been under a tremendous amount of danger and stress thinking they would never see their loved ones ever again. Most soldiers thought they may never see their friends or family ever again, as did their friends and family with them. As one of the biggest wars ever in history, you could imagine that once the war was over, the nation would be very relieved. Coming home was so relieving for one soldier (in the picture) named George Mendonsa, he grabbed a random girl he did not previously know named Greta Zimmer Friedman and kissed her. He was so ecstatic for the war had ended, that he did not care that he did not know the girl. This particular picture has become one of the most iconic pictures from World War II. They crafted a large statue of the man and girl that is currently in in San Diego, California.
