Anakin Reese Conn- Assignment 4

kevin-carter-vulture
This is a picture taken by Kevin Carter in Sudan showing a weak native child struggling to flee from an interested vulture.  After the picture was taken, the photographer gave it to the popular magazine The New York Times, which led to many becoming concerned about the well being of the child.  The photographer mentioned that he had chased away the vulture after taking the picture, but that he couldn't touch the child because of rules against transmitting diseases, forcing the photographer to leave the child.  The image was still a scar in people's minds after these comments.  The photographer won an award for taking this picture, but eventually killed himself over the guilt he and others had given him.
Before the photo was taken, the other people in the village had left to receive supplies from the plane the photographer had come from.  The native child's parents had left it unknowingly, and it most likely would've died if the photographer wasn't present to dissuade the vulture from attacking the native child.  This photograph was shocking to most people, as it reminded them of the problems 3rd world countries face, something our 1st world lives push us to forget under the guise of out of sight, out of mind.
