Over the course of this year, there have been things that I personally have deemed either unnecessary or effective towards the AP Language and Composition test. In my opinion, the most effective days were when we spent time in small groups grading the essays that we wrote with the addition of "dummy" essays mixed in. That made the grading more personal and made it a lot easier to contribute to the critique of the essay. This also spiced things up in class a bit because it kept everyone on edge trying to figure out which essays were the "dummy" essays and which essays were legitimate. Another thing that I thought was effective was the practice AP multiple choice tests. Because these tests didn't count for a grade, I really wasn't stressed at all while taking them and they allowed me to see a benchmark of what my score would've been. Also, they helped me see what I needed to do in order to prepare for the AP test. On the other hand, there were also some things that I deemed unnecessary. The main one of these things was the socratic seminar. I didn't really see how that really prepared us for the AP tests, and it just seemed like sort of useless activities that could've been cut out of the schedule while not harming our preparation for the AP test whatsoever.
