Assignment 19: Charlotte Kessinger

Although its cliche my mom has always told me to not compare myself to others. It seems that today everyone is comparing their accomplishments, failures, and priorities to their peers. If we constantly are thinking of how others perceive us we will never improve ourselves. It is not fair to compare your failure to someone else success. It is all about perspective, your best is your best and someone else best is their best. You can't compare yourself to someone else and except to get better. Instead of being competitive with other people all the time, we should focus on being competitive with ourselves. In track, I can't compare my time to the state champions time. It isn't even comparable and I would not feel confident about myself. But I can compare my recent time with my times from freshman year and see that Ive improved. Or when I have a bad race, I can compare with a good race of mine and see that I am capable of racing well again and become motivated to do so again. Comparing yourself to others only creates low self esteem and doesn't help you improve at all.
