Assignment 4 - Naylan James

The image above shows an african american teenage boy being attacked by a police dog during the civil rights movement. This image changed the whole thinking of our nation, it did so by showing people what was really happening in places like Alabama, where blacks were not treated as equals. As we read in "David and Goliath", the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement knew protesting and telling people they needed help wasn't enough, luckily for them this photo was taken and published. When the general public saw that even a teenage boy was being attacked by police officers, they began to truly understand what was happening to the African American community. The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" comes to fruition here, with this being an image that you can't simply describe and get the full impact. It is believed that without an image like this being shown to the public, the civil rights movement could've been set back decades, if not more.
