Assignment 3- Angelica Malkowski
I believe that, yes, absolute good and absolute evil do
exist. If you are religious, (I am), then you may believe God is absolute good and
the Devil is absolute evil. Even if you are not religious, you can still relate
to the idea of God epitomizing good and the idea of the Devil epitomizing evil.
However, those of us living here on Earth exist mostly in an in-between state:
not completely good (the “nobody’s perfect” cliché), nor completely evil. It is
unfortunately true that good people sometimes do bad things. One thing that
sets a good person apart from an evil one, however, is that a good person
wishes not to do bad things, even though sometimes they fail. Contrastingly, an
evil person knows they do bad things yet has no desire to stop or do good
things. Still, all of this is dependent upon your idea of good and evil. What
some view as completely evil, others may think of as a gray area. Often, this depends
on the specific situation and circumstances surrounding the action in question.
As with everything, labeling something as good or evil is often subjective or even
controversial, due to the plethora of different opinions and biases that exist.
